Whatever your reason for seeking help, it is my commitment to meet you where you are with compassion. You have unique perspectives and experiences, shaped over time, and exploring these together can be an integral step in cultivating peace and growth.
I provide a safe space and use evidence-based techniques to help you create and work towards your goals. I incorporate humanistic, person-centered, psychodynamic and CBT techniques as well as trauma-informed care and mindfulness in my integrative approach to healing.
I work with adolescents, adults and couples to help manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and interpersonal issues. You are a person, not a diagnosis, and you deserve to feel empowered as you prioritize your mental health and wellness. Together we will collaborate on what works best for you, based on your specific needs and values.
In August 2022, I earned my master's degree in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness at New York University.

Why do they call him DT?
Because it stands for more than just David Tonkowich, it stands for Determined Transformation.
A former musician turned business leader, DT redefined his life through the healing power of purpose. After losing his beloved uncle and lifelong mentor to suicide, he followed a deeper calling into mental health counseling. That journey led him to complete a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Molloy University, where he was inducted into Chi Sigma Iota and earned his National Certified Counselor (NCC) credential.
Now a Limited Permit holder under supervision, DT integrates life experience, academic excellence, and deep empathy into every session. His motivational, grounded, and integrative counseling style draws from CBT, Reality Therapy, Gestalt, Solution-Focused, and Experiential approaches, tailored to meet clients exactly where they are. He works with individuals, couples, families, children, and groups on challenges like depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, life transitions, and self-discovery.
DT is passionate about creating safe, affirming spaces for all identities and backgrounds. Inspired by Fred Rogers’ advice to “look for the helpers,” he considers it his mission to walk beside clients as a compassionate guide, helping them turn pain into purpose and rise into the life they’re meant to live.
A lifelong fan of Harry Potter and Star Wars, DT reminds clients:
"This isn’t Hogwarts, and there’s no magic wand in therapy. But if you’re willing to do the work, the force within you can transform everything."
